Biography

Merrill Tanner, soprano, holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Voice Performance, teaches singing privately, performs in the Colibri Duo with classical guitarist Ernst Birss, works as soprano section leader at McDougall United Church and leads a community singing group for people with Parkinson’s disease.

Past performances include:

  • Yearly recitals for the McDougall Music at Noon series
  • Solos with the Chorale St. Jean, Unitarian Church, Christian Science Church and McDougall United Church choirs
  • Roles as:
    • The Countess in Die Fledermaus (Saskatoon Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival)
    • Monica in the Medium (Saskatoon Opera)
    • The Mother in the Little Match Girl
    • in addition to other parts in Saskatoon Fringe Opera productions

She is also a registered speech language pathologist and completed a PhD in 2012 that demonstrates the value of “singing voice therapy” for people with Parkinson’s disease.
